About the village
The village sits in an area that has been inhabited for thousands of years. Nearby, a neolithic settlement has been identified and there is much yet to be discovered.
As at 2001 the village had a population of just under 400 in about 100 properties. There is a thriving and highly regarded Primary School, a (normally) busy Village Hall, A Church, A Garage with a well stocked shop and an award winning Pub. There is a wonderful village green next to the Church with an extensive play area.
Nearby there are walks along the stunning River Torridge, the location for the novel and film Tarka the otter, the beautiful Halsdon Wood and several others.
The northern end of the village has a number of old cob and stone properties and an old coaching inn.

From Barnstaple
Head towards Great Torrington. Then take the road towards RHS Rosemoor. Go past the gardens and keep going for 5 miles until you reach Beaford. That hill is tough going.
Please keep safe, there’s lots of farm vehicles and some careless folk in cars and vans. We want you here safe. There’s a cycle cafe in the pub and Jim, the landlord, is a keen cyclist.
